My name is Nicole Ryle and I am a Business Program Manager Apprentice in Services, Microsoft. I am currently transitioning into my new role at Microsoft (post-apprenticeship) - I will be in the same team, doing a very similar role. In my role, I work as part of a cross business support team to support Business Management, Business Operations and BI reporting. My role on a day-to-day basis changes depending on the demands of my department. However, it usually starts with refreshing a pipeline report to show upcoming deals and sending out a sales update to summarise this, along with anything which is overdue. As well as the reporting aspects of my role, I also support and facilitate various programmes within Services.
After much deliberation, I joined Microsoft in September 2015 as part of the Business Apprenticeship Scheme. It was a difficult decision choosing between an apprenticeship and university; my school pushed everyone to apply to university and didn’t provide any other options. Once I started researching into the Microsoft Apprenticeship Scheme I was instantly interested! Now I am here I know I have made the right decision by not following the crowd and going to university. By doing an apprenticeship I have been able to: learn on the job, get incredible experience in a huge corporate company, meet so many new people who are extremely intelligent and I get paid to do all of this with no debt! Moreover, I am lucky enough to have been offered at job after my apprenticeship – I cannot wait to continue my career at Microsoft.

When starting the apprenticeship at Microsoft I was joined by 7 other amazing people…They have become friends for life and this has been the best part of my apprenticeship. We have become such great friends which has been invaluable as we are all able to support each other.

If I could go back to the start of my apprenticeship, when I was extremely nervous and shy, I would have told myself not to worry! Since joining Microsoft I have become a lot more confident – I don’t get nervous about talking to new people anymore and my presentation skills have improved massively! I have learnt so much at Microsoft and I know I will continue to learn and develop - all the skills I have gained will assist me as I continue with my career.

My future aspirations are to continue working at Microsoft, doing a job I love! I would also love to continue promoting apprenticeships as it has honestly been the best decision I have ever made. If you are thinking about applying to an apprenticeship but aren’t 100% sure, I encourage you to take the plunge and do it! You won’t regret it.
