FY16 Apprentice Graduation

Our FY16 apprentices have just recently graduated, so we thought we would get their opinions on their journey as an apprentice at Microsoft. This is what they had to say:

So, after 18 months in a Partner Sales role at Microsoft, I’ve completed my apprenticeship and have officially graduated. What a blast!

Over my time here, I’ve thoroughly grown as a person in many ways (not in height though, I’m still 5”2…) and I’ve developed my team building skills by working in my day-to-day role. I’ve also worked on my leadership skills as I’ve co-lead the Get On 101 team, where we go out to schools and talk to young people about jobs in the tech industry.

One of the things I was very uncomfortable doing before my apprenticeship was public speaking, or even speaking in a large group of people – that’s totally changed now. As an apprentice that is graduating, we were asked to present in Microsoft’s auditorium to our friends, family, work colleagues, managers and even members of the Senior Leadership team about our time here. I never would’ve been able to do this if it wasn’t for stretch projects like Get On!

The graduation overall was fantastic. It’s amazing to see how much the fellow apprentices in my cohort have grown and changed over the past 18 months. It was also lovely to meet everyone’s families and teams.

Although my role has come to an end, I’m not leaving Microsoft.

I’ve recently started a new role in the Partner Marketing team, creating content and helping to manage our partner network. I’ll also be completing a funded degree alongside this in Business Management, which I’m super excited about!

Completing the Microsoft Apprenticeship scheme was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made; I’ve never looked back. If you’re interested in applying, just go for it. You never know where it might take you…

The past 18 months have been amazing! Doing an apprenticeship was the best decision I’ve ever made and celebrating the completion of our apprenticeship was a very special day. It was also very nerve-wracking as we all had to do presentations on our time at Microsoft, but it was a great chance to reflect on all the incredible things we have done. I feel very lucky to be able to say that I did an apprenticeship at Microsoft and I now have a job here. 😊

The Graduation event was such a great way to end the 18 months, we have spent as apprentices. The time I have spent as an apprentice have been the best of my life and have given me an amazing start to my career. I have gained so much useful knowledge and work experience that I can use for any jobs I may have in the future.

“Being a Microsoft Apprentice has been truly incredible. Not many people can say they have joined the world’s biggest organisation aged 16. During my apprenticeship, I have impacted thousands of students, attended over 40 career's fairs, and even visited the Houses of Parliament. I have had the opportunity to meet so many incredible executive people both at Microsoft and externally, from Director of the National Apprenticeship Service, Sue Husband, to Chancellor of The Exchequer, Phillip Hammond where I showed him Microsoft HoloLens, Surface Studio and Surface Hub. I’m proud of the work I have done at Microsoft as an apprentice and can’t wait to get started in my new position.”-
