Microsoft Campus Brand Ambassadors - What's it all about?
Hello! My name is Chantelle – I’m an Account Executive for On-Campus Promotions, the sister company of RateMyPlacement. I’m the campaign manager for the Brand Ambassadors for Microsoft this year.
We currently have student Brand Ambassadors representing Microsoft at twelve different UK Universities. Their role is to be the face of Microsoft on campus and increase awareness of Microsoft’s job opportunities amongst other students. Our Brand Ambassadors are enthusiastic, creative and best of all, they are passionate about Microsoft. This is the third year we’ve run a Brand Ambassador scheme for Microsoft – and it’s better than ever.
So, what does the Brand Ambassador scheme involve?
Our Brand Ambassadors underwent a selection process involving a written application and Skype interview (good practice for applying for placements and grad schemes!). It was pretty tough to decide between so many good applicants! Finally, we had the dream-team finalised, made up of some of the best and brightest students at our target Universities. We invited them down to Microsoft’s offices in Reading for a Training Day. Alongside the training for their role, the Brand Ambassadors networked with current Microsoft employees including the graduate recruitment team, heard a special presentation about upcoming innovations and had a tour of Microsoft’s offices. It was my first time to Microsoft’s offices too…and trust me when I say their offices are great. They really do have Xboxes lining the walls!
The great thing about the Brand Ambassador scheme is that we give our Brand Ambassadors the chance to really make their mark on the campaign. Last year, the Brand Ambassadors achieved 750 clicks on the ‘Be Your Future Blog’, a target we are hoping to beat this year! Application figures from two of the Brand Ambassador universities also increased by more than 50%. This year, as well as promoting Microsoft’s roles and supporting them at their on campus events, our Brand Ambassadors were challenged to come up with a creative way to promote Microsoft to students. Their ideas have ranged from creating a YouTube video, running a #MicrosoftIs Twitter campaign, getting shout outs on the student radio stations, and loads more. They’ve also had the opportunity to each write a blog for Microsoft (watch this space!).
We currently have Brand Ambassadors at the following Universities: Aston, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Exeter, Imperial, Loughborough, Manchester, Surrey, UCL, Warwick, Reading and UWE. If you run into them on campus, don’t be shy, go say hi!
